Rudolph Clausius was born on January 2, 1822. For two decades he was a professor of physics at the University of Bonn and shaped the development of physics and chemistry as well as many other sciences with his studies on thermodynamics and the concept of entropy. In the winter semester 2021/2022, the lecture series "The Moving Force of Heat" was dedicated to him on the occasion of his 200th birthday. Ten different lectures by lecturers from the fields of chemistry, physics/astronomy and the transdisciplinary research area "Building blocks of matter and fundamental interactions" were offered.
A ceremony will also be held at the university on July 13. In addition to a ceremonial renaming of the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry (IPTC) to the Clausius Institute, a festive event will be held at which two Nobel laureates, Jean-Marie Lehn and Steven Chu, will give a scientific lecture in honor of Rudolph Clausius.
